This ultra-light and resistant material is exclusively developed by Audemars Piguet, from the manu facturing method through to the related tools. The replica Baume & Mercier Capeland sophisticated shapes of the Royal Oak Offshore are achieved thanks to an appropriate mould. A set of threaded carbon filaments is placed inside this mould. This wire measuring just one millimetre in diameter is itself composed of several thousand 7-micron carbon fibres held together by a resin wire.
The case middle of the Royal Oak Offshore Grand Prix calls for a set of filaments totalling 12. 5 grams. Placed end to end, these filaments are equivalent to 22. 2 metres of carbon wire and 99. 7 km of carbon fibres! The mould is then compressed at Jaeger LeCoultre 145840 high temperature at pressures of over 300 kilos per square centimetre. This process results in a material composed of 76% carbon and only 24% polyamide. Audemars Piguet displays the full force of its expertise in the machining process.
The strap is made of hand-sewn alligator and has an AP folding titanium clasp. This watch is beautiful and complicated and may become one of the first production watches to use pure carbon.I do not know when it will be available for sale, maybe next year, but I do know it will be very expensive and production will be limited. TB Buti is an Italian watchmaker that produces some very nice looking timepieces.The one pictured Jaeger LeCoultre 1458402 Watch above is a 48 mm concept watch made of pure carbon.These are exclusive images taken from Baselworld earlier this month.TB Buti has not released any info on pricing or availabilty yet.Audemars has released a few carbon watch models, but this one should cost substantially less.
